WILSON, Arkansas (KAIT) – The Rivercrest School District has begun construction on a new sports complex that they hope will host more state championships.
The $5 million sports complex will be adjacent to the high school. Rivercrest School District Superintendent Michael Cox hopes that with all the upgrades, they will be able to attract state championships in the future.
“We’ll be able to play after dark and hopefully we’ll have a game here or something,” Cox said. “We made sure everything was in place within the original scope of this work to be able to host the state championships.”
The complex will include new baseball and softball fields as well as new concession stands and stands.
The project has come a long way, Cox said, increasing the initial $2 million project to $5 million, in part due to rising construction costs.
Cox said he hopes the project will be completed by the new baseball/softball season this spring.
